Social Networking Meets Fashion in Japan – New SNS “fukulog”

Mass-commies in Japan now see an opportunity to combine fashion and social networking together.

New website fukulog utilizes the wardrobe coordination concept to encourage interaction among members – for fashion tips, coordination ideas and discussions. To keep the ball rolling, a ranking system for posted coordinations and fashion items is also implemented.

Similar to other social networking sites (SNS), fukulog’s users can host their own profile page. Unlike western SNS, fukulog’s user profile page lacks a privacy setting, and all profiles can be viewed publicly.

And that’s a good news for fashion shop owners and brands – the website also allows for users to search for and recommend shops, brands and fashion items.

Definitely a great concept, and even more so for the famous trendsetting nation. But, whether the website can set trends or it merely provides wardrobe coordination ideas will be up to the management team.

fukulog currently lacks an e-commerce system due to the absence of partnerships with fashion brands. Thus, on the aspect of convenience, the new site loses out to mega online fashion stores such as ZOZORESORT, which manages to merge the same features (ranking system, user profile & photo upload for wardrobe coordination) with e-commerce.

Also, the absence of partnership could mean that maintenance of the latest items list largely depends on its users and its own management team.
